Relay For Life 2015

All cancer survivors, carers and supporters gathered together on Friday night for the Annual Relay For Life. Relay For Life is a fun overnight experience that raises money for Cancer Councils research, prevention and support services.  Teams walked around Coughlin Park in Horsham all night to recognize and celebrate the memory of loved ones who lost their battle to cancer, as well as those who have overcome it.

This year, there were 50 teams and 937 participants who helped raise a whopping $122,212.20 for Cancer Council. Although the goal for this year was $190,00, the money raised is still a very large amount.

Although I did not participate in Relay For Life this year, I still attended for a few hours to prepare for the 9pm Candle Ceremony, and to mourn my mother who passed away from breast cancer when I was only 5 years old. I purchased a paper bag and a candle, which were put on display at the candle ceremony. I think Relay For Life is a fantastic opportunity to not only raise money, but also to have fun and remember all those who have been touched by cancer, both alive and deceased. It gives us a chance to remember our loved ones who have passed, and help others so they can have a chance at life.

Welcome To My Place

I wish I could think of some witty and funny and way to start this post, but I cannot.
My name is Serena, and I live in a tiny wheat-belt town in rural Victoria. I'm currently eighteen years old, and have a love for writing. Am I any good at it? I highly doubt that, but I'm not stopping any time soon. I have very strong opinions on things that are happening in our country, and around the world as well.
I'm an extremely organised person, you could say that I have OCD. I have a crazy obsession with sticky notes and stationary, and new notebooks too. In my opinion, a desk or work area is not complete without a fake indoor plant.
I find myself to be a very happy person. I'm always optimistic and I'm never afraid to take chances. I'm not a crazy dare devil who will go jump of a bridge to feel like I've accomplished something, but I will never turn down an opportunity that is given to me. You could say I'm a 'glass half full' type of girl.
What are my plans for the future? I don't see a need in planning your future, because when the time comes you may not even like you've wanted all along.
